Could this method be used to create diamonds and gemstones?

    • Hey! For everything gemstone related I can highly recommend Raphael Rau’s series on rendering diamonds in C4D (search for “Silverwing Long Tip: Diamond Series” on Youtube). I gave it a quick rewatch and, in terms of shading, I would do the following: I’d definitely use UE5.6 as gems need tons of refraction. For a diamond set roughness to 0, ior to 2.417 and the mfp color to pure white. One thing that’s going to be difficult is dispersion (colorful refractions) as there’s no parameter for that in Substrate (I think). But you may be able to fake it with the thin-film helper node. In any case: shading is just one part of realistic gems and I really recommend watching Raphael’s series for modelling, lighting and rendering gems as well.
